ASHBY?
Ashby is Liz’s middle name given to her in honor of her paternal grandmother’s maiden name — As a child, when asked her middle name, she simply declared that she didn’t have one because “ASHBY” was different and she didn’t know anyone who had that name — the same reason why she embraces the name today.
Papa & Mama “Shades” Goodwin
Liz Benedetto is trained as a Visual Designer + Photographer with a strong foundation in design thinking, typography & color theory. Raised in Evanston, a suburb just outside of Chicago, where creativity is celebrated, the attraction to photography began at about 15 years old when she convinced her dad help her set-up the darkroom in her childhood home. The curiosity grew quickly to graphic design and she worked at a LetterPress print shop during high school.
Liz is a “creative" with a strong marketing business sense. Her professional career started at an architectural firm where she was hired as the Public Relations Manager and quickly moved up the ladder to Marketing and later to Business Development. Though she has a knack for marketing, she found herself spending all of her free time in the company’s graphics department. She created her portfolio, and was accepted to the competitive Post-Baccalaureate Program at The School of the Art Institute where she studied Visual Communication. She has been designing ever since. From a small boutique studio in Chicago to a large fortune 500 company where she worked in the Creative Design & Human Factors group designing websites.
Liz founded, Ashby Creative Lab, over 18 years ago because she wanted to create a place committed to being curious and to the tireless pursuit of creative exploration using all media. In an ever-changing industry, she is always chasing the spark that happens when you learn something new during the creative process. Clients range in industry, size and scope yet each one is valuable.
This Irish girl who married an Italian boy is as stubborn as ever; she is constantly looking for projects that inspire & challenge her creatively.
